The TopClosure® Tension Relief System (TRS) is a groundbreaking innovation designed for skin stretching and secure wound closure. This simple yet highly effective method addresses a wide variety of complex skin wounds, including those resulting from trauma, surgery, and chronic or acute conditions that do not respond to traditional care.
In many cases, complex wounds necessitate surgery as the final solution. The TopClosure® TRS offers a novel alternative, providing both invasive and non-invasive options for wound management.
Applied non-invasively, the system adheres to the skin using a biocompatible, hypoallergenic tape, either before or after surgery. In scenarios where direct skin closure is expected under high tension, the system is used pre-operatively to stretch the skin, eliminating the need for tissue expanders and offering a non-invasive external tissue expansion method, thereby reducing the extent of surgery and potential complications.
Post-surgery, TopClosure® TRS secures the wound by evenly distributing tension away from the wound edges, significantly reducing or eliminating tension on the scar. This reduces the risk of dehiscence and improves both the quality and appearance of the scar.
Traditional tension sutures can create localized stress points on the skin, leading to ischemia, tissue tearing, and scarring. The TopClosure® TRS leverages the skin's natural biomechanical properties, using viscoelasticity to optimize wound closure through a process called stress relaxation, which gradually brings the wound edges together in small increments with each load cycle.
When immediate closure isn't feasible due to high tension, the system facilitates gradual closure through mechanical creep over a few days, preventing ischemia and tissue tearing that often accompany tension sutures.
The TopClosure® TRS can also be combined with regulated negative pressure therapy to accelerate healing in chronic and acute wounds.
